Welcome to the July newsletter
Welcome to the July Newsletter, this month our Southampton Drivers have been lounging around on yachts with the beautiful people at the Marina, and our Gatwick Depot have been finding themselves in a tight spot at Heathrow !
Our new PDA systems will shortly be rolled out to integrate the Gatwick and Southampton depots making both offices paperless, and allowing our customers to see every detail of the job in real-time, technology folks, we just love it here!
As usual please do get in contact if you have any feedback as to how we can improve our services to you.
Masterfully Manoeuvred
Our client Southampton Yacht Services required the Installation of a 45ft long mast on to a custom built 50ft Trimaran Boat. The mast was gently lifted up by our remote controlled Hiab, whilst the installation team on deck used a trolley & winch system below to manoeuvre it into the correct position to be guided up-right and secured into place.
Andy Willett of SYS said “We use Gatwick’s Hiabs for operations such as this, as the boom is just so versatile and can be positioned into an almost curve shape, it's perfect for this type of precision job when working on people's prized possessions!
Stuck In The Middle With You
Our client GB Access and Taylor Woodrow required a Contract Lift for the lifting and installation of a goods and materials hoist into Heathrow, Terminal 4.
This proved a particularly complex operation because of restricted lifting space and reduced working height due to the terminal building walkways overhead.
We transported the hoist using ‘Long Tall Sally’ (our artic low-loader with tri-axle trailer,) airside into T4, where our slinger/banksman then guided the vehicle in to position, reversing back with only inches to spare under the roof space to ensure that the hoist was as close as possible to the lifting area.
We then un-coupled the trailer and re-positioned the tractor unit using and it's front mounted Hiab 477 XS we lifted the hoist in to position through the small lifting zone, this is where our hand held remote controls are invaluable by allowing the operator to stand at the safest and best vantage point for difficult lifts.
The works were carried out over night, during a timed road closure to ensure that any disruption to airside operations were kept to a minimum.
Ringing The Changes
As you can probably tell by now, it's no super model in the looks department, but then again it's not really designed to be, our new EDA’s (or Enterprise Digital Assistant’s as they are known) are tougher than an armour clad Arnold Schwarzenegger and have been put together to withstand the daily rigours of business use out in the field.
These new EDA’s and our bespoke developed software mean that we can communicate with our drivers/operators & customers in real-time, whilst allowing us monitor the progress of each job, documenting arrival and completion times as well as relevant photographs, recording outcomes and logging events on site therefore giving us total visibility of all activity. This Increased insight and real-time communication means a more efficient workflow and an improved customer service experience no matter what challenges come our way.
And Finally...
We would like to introduce the newest member of the team at Gatwick Group - Director of Security Operations: 'Mr Flint', the 8 week old Border Terrier.
Duties include security patrol, sleeping and the shredding of important documents.
All together now ... Awwwwww Bless !
