Our Latest Vehicle has Arrived

On the 6th August The Gatwick Group took delivery of its latest new vehicle. Mounted on a Volvo 8 wheel chassis with a XS548 54 tonne metre Hiab lorry loader the new rigid is a welcome addition to our busy Horley fleet.

Paul Burridge interim General Manager stated that this was our first Volvo in the fleet representing a departure from the traditional all Scania fleet. He stated that “Disappointingly Scania had failed to supply an adequate response to the tender process so this will probably be the first of many Volvos”.

A second Volvo with a larger XS1058 100 tonne metre Hiab crane is planned for delivery in the next couple of months with 2 further additions planned for next year. The vehicle has all the latest safety equipment installed to include: rear, side and front view cameras recording to Brigade hard drive, scan for nearside proximity warning, left hand indicator squawk box verbal warning and all the safety features expected on Hiabs latest design of crane which includes the VSL plus stability control system and height restriction monitor.

The vehicle will typically be employed on motorway sign installation work, mobile phone mast and hardware lifts, specialist one off complex lifts in and around Gatwick and Heathrow airports as well as generator and portakabin movements.

Gatwick Group at Ardingly Big Bang Fair

On the 27th and 28th June 2018 the Gatwick Group supplied a vehicle and staff to support the Ardingly Big Bang Fair linked to the University of Sussex. Under supervision members of the public where given the opportunity to operate a hiab crane through a series of challenges. Our thanks to Del, Keren, Sapana and Carl who either helped with the organisation or attended.
